SF Gateway Author of the Month: Sheri S. Tepper

Another month down. Can it be March already? Why, yes it can – and that means all change on the SF Gateway home page!

As noted at the start of the year on this very blog, we have decided to change the Author of the Week spotlight to Author of the Month. February, our first month, was given over to the late, great Harry Harrison. Now, as we move into March (so called because it’s usually the point at which we realise that the year is starting to march away from us. Fact.), we are delighted to announce the awesomely-talented Sheri S. Tepper as Author of the Month.

Few authors are as comfortable crossing the divide between SF and fantasy as Sheri S. Tepper. From the reimagined fairytale of Beauty to the Hugo-shortlisted eco-SF of Grass, from the post-holocaust world of The Gate to Women’s Country to the exobiological drama of After Long Silence, it is clear we are in the hands of a master storyteller and first class writer. But this quote from her author entry in The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction summarises Sheri S. Tepper‘s importance far more eloquently than we could:

In the space of only a few years she became one of sf’s premier world-builders; the diversity of invented societies in Sideshow – this diversity being the actual point of the book – is breathtaking, as is the vivid ecological mystery of Grass, the bizarre discovery of a bona fide “god” in Raising the Stones, and the planetary dance that climaxes Six Moon Dance. She was one of the most significant new – and new Feminist – voices to enter 1980s sf, and a figure whose daunting singlemindedness about the disasters threatening this planet have significantly affected the world of sf.

There are currently thirty-two titles available as SF Gateway eBooks, with more in production or checking – and for March only, every individual title* will be available at the popular price of £2.99!

We hope that this special price will persuade readers unfamiliar with Sheri S. Tepper‘s work to give her a try (see her SF Gateway author page for recommended titles to start with) and persuade those who already count themselves fans to try some of her less well-known titles.

Please note that, for the moment at least, this is a UK-only promotion. It may eventually be taken up by our colleagues in other markets, but we’re test-driving it in the UK for now.

* N.B. The Sheri S. Tepper eBook Collection will remain at its usual price of £14.99 – which already lower than £2.99 per title.
