SF Gateway Author of the Month: Connie Willis
About a month ago, the Gollancz editorial team was privileged to sit down to lunch with a visiting American author. This author is pretty much a giant in the field, having dominated the Hugo and Nebula ballots and the Locus poll for the past thirty years, racking up an impressive eleven Hugo wins, seven Nebulas, a John W. Campbell and an SFWA Grand Master Award and being inducted into the SF Hall of Fame.
Add to the above a reputation as one of the best and wittiest raconteurs the genre has to offer and it’s fair to say that the expectation bar was set quite high for our lunch. But Connie Willis (for, of course, ’twas she) cleared it with room to spare. She is, quite simply, one of the smartest, wittiest, nicest people you could ever ask to meet, and lunch – a blur of good food and scintillating conversation – was over far too quickly.
Now, much as we would love to offer you all lunch with Connie Willis, our powers do not stretch quite that far. What we can do, though, is to make her our author of the month and offer all of the Connie Willis titles we publish as £2.99 eBooks. This includes the Hugo Award-winning To Say Nothing of the Dog and the Hugo and Nebula-winning Doomsday Book, Blackout and All Clear.
And if this feast of Connie Willis excellence whets your appetite for more: we’ll be publishing Time is the Fire: The Best of Connie Willis, next month as an SF Masterworks paperback and an SF Gateway eBook. It contains ten of Connie Willis‘s best short stories, every one of which has won the Hugo, the Nebula or both.
Please note that, for the moment at least, this is a UK-only promotion. It may eventually be taken up by our colleagues in other markets, but we’re test-driving it in the UK for now.
