Happy Birthday, Michael Bishop!
Celebrating his Biblical three-score-and-ten, today, is Michael Lawson Bishop, born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on 12th November 1945.
A published author for forty-five years, since his story ‘Piñon Fall’ appeared in the October 1970 issue of Galaxy, Michael Bishop has produced sixteen novels and as many story collections. His work has been shortlisted multiple times for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Arthur C. Clarke, John W. Campbell, BSFA and Theodore Sturgeon Awards. He has also been shortlisted for the Philip K. Dick Award and won the Shirley Jackson Award in 2009 for his story ‘The Pile’.
He won the Nebula Award for best novel in 1983 with No Enemy But Time, beating a hugely strong field containing work by Brian W. Aldiss, Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Robert A. Heinlein and Gene Wolfe.
